We started Pinhook as friends with a shared passion for great whiskey and a curiosity to do things differently. Inspired by winemaking and the art of pinhooking in thoroughbred racing—where young horses are selected for their potential—we craft annual vintages that embrace the unique character of each year’s barrels. No fixed formulas. Just original spirits, made with care and built to stand apart.

To Pinhook means embracing and nurturing the unique attributes of young horses, rather than trying to mold them into an predetermined ideal. Pinhooking isn't about conforming; it's about seeing originality as untapped potential.
To honor this philosophy, every year, we carefully select two promising thoroughbreds to appear on our labels in collaboration with Mike McMahon and Jamie Hill, our partners at Bourbon Lane Stable – one horse receives a bourbon-inspired name, the other a rye-inspired one.
